The folding MacBook will rely on a foldable keyboard, presumably as current iPads do. Alternatively, the device might be used as a tiny display connected with an external keyboard and mouse. However, Young thinks that a foldable MacBook may not appear until 2027, or 2025 at the earliest.
According to reports this week, Apple may be developing a 20-inch folding MacBook. This is an all-display laptop with a foldable display, so that it can be taken around while folded yet has a large display when unfolded for those who are hearing about it for the first time.
Antonio De Rosa of ADR Studio has put together a concept rendering of what this folding MacBook may look like, dubbed the MacBook Folio.
Actually, De Rosa’s take on the laptop has a lot of potential. On the exterior, it seems to be a standard MacBook, but on the interior, the primary display stretches all the way to the laptop’s keyboard, keeping the physical trackpad. Apple has previously claimed that they aren’t interested in manufacturing touchscreen Macs, but this might be a viable approach to make it more user-friendly.”
Despite this, we’re still dubious about Apple’s stated intentions. Since using touchscreen keyboards for long periods of time can be tiring, having tactile feedback while typing is an advantage. Even if Apple’s execution differs from De Rosa’s vision, we won’t have to worry about it for the time being because this reported laptop isn’t expected to emerge for another several years.
